Alternate / Renewable Energy
Empecon can advise on the merits, or otherwise, of using particular systems, types and materials in differing locations and situations from new-build to refurbishment.
Empecon can attempt to de-bunk and sift out all of the suitable data for any particular project from the mass of hype and nonsense that is talked and written in the national press, on the internet and seen on the television.
Empecon will attempt to provide a realistic assessment of ALL of the possible alternative types of system possible for any particular site and will prepare reports and studies that will remove all of the gloss and glitz and will be only factual, realistic and will indentify the needs of the latest building regulation requirements.
ALSO remember that:-
In today's political and fiscal climate Alternate / Renewable systems are NOT cheap and any attempt at seeking quick payback returns balanced to maximum system efficiency are futile.
Build costs will come down eventually, but not in the short-term!
Areas and Systems Types Considered:
Consideration for any particular project can include any combination, or all, of the following:-
| Structural considerations and integrity |
Advice given as to the suitability of any particular build methodology, insulation standards, air-tightness, use of "robust details" and suitable materials as well as always trying to use locally sourced materials |
| Use of Natural Materials in Construction |
Where possible, making use of natural and re-cycled materials such as cob, straw-bales, lambswool, pulverised and shredded paper, flax, hemp and lime, etc. |
| Passive Solar Utilisation |
Attempting to ensure that Solar Energy availability is utilised to its maximum, whilst ensuring that overheating and shading is also practically and sensibly provided for |
| Solar Thermal |
Ensure maximum utilisation of any possible Solar Thermal potential to provide heat to both the structure and for hot water generation |
| Solar PV |
Ensure maximum utilisation of any possible Solar Photo-voltaics potential to provide electricity for use both on-site and for possible export to the grid |
| Heat Pumps |
Consider the use of direct and indirect water-to-water and air-to-water heat pumps for the provision of heating and hot water |
| Whole-house Ventilation |
Provide advice and explanations as to the benefits and uses of proper ventilation of any accommodation format |
| Rainwater Harvesting and Use |
Show how harvested rainwater can reduce potable water use both inside and outside the house. |
| Grey-water Collection and Use |
Show how certain waste water can be re-used, again saving potable water Consumption |
| Wind |
Establish the possible generation capability using this technology and how it can be utilised in any particular project scenario |
| Hydro |
Establish the possible generation capability using this technology and how it can be utilised in any particular project scenario |
| Bio-mass |
Provide advice and explanations as to the benefits of bio-mass boiler plant into any proposed scheme including fuel storage and delivery |
