Tony has held design, design supervision and installation supervision positions within the construction industry, on both the consultancy and the construction sides, for over 35 years and as a result, is a Senior Project Development Engineer with wide and extensive construction and industrial sector knowledge and experience.

Tony continues to be an enthusiastic proponent of renewable energy utilisation as well as being a project investigator, experienced in pre-works investigation, project development and in on-site multi-service installation co-ordination, involving experience of most aspects of environmentally based building engineering servicing across a wide range of industry sectors.

Milestones

As a freelance M, E & Plant Engineering Services Engineer, Tony Thurgood has:

  • been responsible for front-end studies on major development projects up to £45m;
  • advised on the technical suitability of the ideas and sketch designs behind a multi-million planning submission; Eden Biomes
  • advised a national company on the amendments to their works and processes to meet with safety and BS5750 requirements;
  • been design-team leader on a £50m fit-out contract bid for a major national construction group;
  • been the site resident M&E supervising and co-ordination engineer for the refurbishment and up-grading of several major listed buildings in The Royal Naval Dockyard at Devonport, Plymouth, again for a major national contractor;
  • been the site resident M&E supervising and co-ordination engineer on the upgrading of a steelworks in Lincoln which included the installation of a new cupola and raw materials handling plant;
  • been the site resident M&E supervising and co-ordination engineer for the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth where the plant including all of the aquatic life support systems in addition to the normal public buildings systems (M&E Value £2.75m+)
  • was the site M, E & Plant Engineering Construction Supervisor on "The Eden Project" in Cornwall (M&E Value £6.75m+).
  • developed and supervised the installation of a total alternate energy building at "The Eden Project";
  • supervised the co-ordination of all M&E services on 2 new hospitals in Plymouth and 4 new primary schools in Exeter;
  • carried out 4 small projects and one large project feasibility studies for area upgradings at Plymouth University.
  • working as Engineering Design Manager for Bio-mass Boiler Company responsible for ensuring that installation design proposals can be accomplished. Projects from 45KW to 2.5MW.
